ARTSOUTH is the creation of Ellie Schneiderman and I. Stanley Levine. Incorporated in June 2000, ArtSouth first opened its doors to the public in April 2001, with a core group of under ten artists. Today that number has more than tripled, with the addition of a fully operational school, galleries and on-going events. Since its inception, ArtSouth has evolved significantly as a landmark arts center in culturally undeserved South Dade.

A clay artist for over 35 years, Schneiderman first made her appearance on the art scene in the late 1970s with the Grove House in Coconut Grove. From there she founded the South Florida Art Center on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, inspiring a total revitalization of the area now known as a hotspot for arts, entertainment, and shopping. Schneiderman stayed on with South Florida Art Center for 10 years before moving on to open Miami Art Works in Coconut Grove and then ArtSouth in Homestead.

I. Stanley Levine has been a prominent patron of the performing arts for many years. Levine aided in bringing the Miami City Ballet to fruition, has served on the Miami Preservation League, currently serves on the Florida Arts Council, and is involved in countless other art-related organizations locally and out-of-state.

Together, Levine and Schneiderman have successfully combined the visual and performing arts in what was once a culturally underserved area. By working with community partners such as Homestead Main Street Association, the Seminole Theatre, and Miami Dade College in Homestead (to name only a few), ArtSouth seeks to bring to the Homestead and Deep South Dade area a long-lasting quality cultural arts resource that appeals to all ages, abilities and interests.
